A Brief History
Hi, I'm Seth Rutledge, owner of Seth Paints/Seth's Painting and Carpentry, this is my story: My mother Marcia Rutledge spent several years painting professionally, and she taught me the trade around the age of 14. Later mom ran a crew with me for a few summers when she retired from school psychology.
My father, Larry Rutledge, a professional carpenter/handy man, taught me his trade as well. Dad still helps out on projects from time to time.
I formed a crew with my brother and a high-school friend in 1999. Since then I have worked with many painters and tradesmen, picking up lots of skills and tips along the way.
I have painted dozens of houses on the East Side of Syracuse, and as I drive and bike around town I watch my houses, seeing which paints last the best.
I do meticulous work to produce a beautiful and durable paint job. I use many of the same methods as my mentors: thorough scraping and putty knifing, sanding, sterilizing, caulking where necessary, and not caulking where the house needs to breathe, knowing when special paints and additives are necessary, back brushing/rolling to work the paint into the grain, careful attention to weather conditions, and bringing care and attention to every part of your home.
A lot has changed in the 20+ years since I started. Awareness of lead hazards has grown, I am a certified lead renovator and take the risk of lead poisoning very seriously. I have adopted new equipment and methods, but have not abandoned the tried and true principles that have given my clients lasting results for two decades.
I also offer carpentry and handy/man services. Whenever I find rotted wood I will let you know and give you the options of replacing it. Some of the services that I frequently offer are: plaster and drywall repair/installation, foundation parging, pressure washing, deck treatments, replacing rotted wood, jacking porches, replacing/glazing windows, installing new windows and doors, roof maintenance, bathroom and kitchen renovation/repair, gutter and window cleaning, and carpentry of all sorts.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about my services, please feel free to call, text, or email with questions about my work, and if you want a free estimate or consultation about any painting or home repair project.
